Rev. Rob Spencer
Rob is a fourth generation Methodist pastor who was appointed to First Paris (in July of 2013) after having served at Ridgewood Park UMC in Dallas, Texas. Previous churches he has served include, First Rowlett (associate), Westview Greenville, First Lancaster, and Whaley in Gainesville. He grew up in Brazil where his parents, Bob and Jane Spencer served as missionaries in Rio and Recife.
Rob and his wife, Celeste have been married over 30 years and have a son, Colin and a daughter, Brooke. Rob also has a daughter, Jill Hanson, a son-in-law Rufus, and a beautiful granddaughter, Kailynn.
Rob is passionate about family and community. Each year the Spencers head to Creede Colorado for their summer vacation on Soward Ranch. He loves being in Northeast Texas – especially out on Red ‘Ark Farm in Direct. He enjoys playing basketball and just about anything outdoors from fly-fishing and hunting to gardening and even, to some degree, mowing. He is in the process of birthing a “pasture golf course” on the farm. In his dreams he thinks this will be a “uniquely elite one-club course.”
He believes strongly that the church can be one of the best ways to help all people experience the love of God that we know in Jesus Christ. He wants church to be “worth getting up for.” If the church is authentic and relevant then this can be done. As followers of Christ we are called to work together to transform the world!
